MASTER TOSHIO KURAMOTO

..Kuramoto-sensei at the Japanese Gardens in L.A.'s Sepulveda Basin, CA.

When Kuramoto was a young man in Japan he was involved in a major truck accident while working for his father's construction company. He was driving a large cement truck when his foot accidently slipped off of the brake pedal and on to the accelerator, causing the truck to lunge forward, crashing head-on. Kuramoto was crushed behind the stirring wheel. He broke 13 ribs, ruptured his spleen, and was bleeding internally! Unconscious, he was rushed directly to a hospital emergency operating room where they removed his spleen and tried to stop the internal bleeding. He was not expected to live. But God had much bigger plans for Kuramoto-sensei. In just three months time in the hospital, he had almost completely recovered from all of his injuries and as history now shows us, he went on to become a 7th Dan Shorinji Kempo Black Belt Master,... who with the help and support of his loving family, accomplished all of his life-long dreams.

No ordinary person could ever have done this!

Wei-Chih-sensei is now the new branch master for the Industry Sheriff's Dojo. Under Kuramoto-sensei, Wei-Chih was the most advanced in the dojo and Shorinji Kempo Headquarters recognized his excellent technique by promoting him to branch master after he successfully completed some stringent physical and written technique testing. Wei-Chih now leads the dojo and passes on Kuramoto-sensei's legacy.

There is a saying in Shorinji Kempo: "Boundless strength and unlimited love". Love without strength is ineffective and strength without love is violence. Master Kuramoto-sensei found the perfect balance between strength and love and he was a living example of Shorinji Kempo's unique philosophy.

Kuramoto-sensei trained many children in his dojo and he made a positive contribution to our youth and our community. Many of his young students earned Black Belts and have grown up to become very productive and healthy individuals who are physically, mentally and spiritually sound and in balance.
