In 1989 Kuramoto-sensei married his beloved wife, Chieko Yoshimoto, who he met through Shorinji Kempo. Soon after, they gave birth to their beautiful daughter and only child, Eri Kuramoto. The whole family practiced Shorinji Kempo together and both Eri and Chieko gave sensei all the love, support and happiness that allowed him to accomplish his life-long dreams. --. Daughter Eri and wife Chieko. Eri Kuramoto is currently working towards her 3rd Dan Black Belt in Shorinji Kempo. Her excellent technique is a direct reflection of her dad's, who began training her at age three. She is also a brillant college student at Cal Poly Pomona. Chieko Kuramoto is a Brown Belt member of Shorinji Kempo and is training hard, towards her Black Belt. Kuramoto-sensei was a loving father and husband and he cherished his family.
Kuramoto-sensei and student, Blue Johnson.. Sensei changed my life and taught me things that I never dreamed that I could do. He really made me believe in myself. My son Ming, who is now in college, received his Black Belt in Shorinji Kempo from Kuramoto-sensei and he trained with him for almost half of his life. My wife Joyce also received her Brown Belt from sensei. I am very thankful and proud to have been the first student in his dojo to earn a Black Belt. He was a gentle and amazing person and we will never forget him or his teachings. He did so much for me and my family!
Kuramoto-sensei's funeral at Higashi Hongangi Buddhist Temple in Little Tokyo, downtown L.A.. The funeral was held on Saturday June 2nd, 2007. Family members, martial arts students, friends, city officials, policemen, SWAT team members and Shorinji Kempo branch masters, all came to pay their respects. The majority of the people in this photo received their Black Belts from or trained with Kuramoto-sensei. The service was both a Shorinji Kempo ceremony (which included embu), as well as a traditional Buddhist service. Inside the temple, it was standing room only.
